My wife Jane and I cruised north to the panhandle of Southeast Alaska this past summer and explored the Alexander Archipelago for three months before turning south to visit the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwai and crossing to the west coast of Vancouver Island. In all, 3700 miles passed under SV Encore’s keel over fourth months including three over-night passages, crossing both Dixon Entrance and Hecate Strait twice, and a too-close encounter with one rock. An open blog that I maintained throughout the voyage contains many more details, photos, videos and commentary and can be found at https://palancar8.org.
Alaska is immense, and we only visited the panhandle! Following the footsteps of numerous sailors from Bainbridge Island, our presentation goals are to impress the audience regarding the magnificence of a small part of seemingly endless maritime portion our 49th state, to inform the audience of the ebbs and floods of our journey, and to inspire those who’ve not ventured so far to “just do it!”
Come join us starting with a potluck around 5:30pm Friday, 22 November, at the Stan Pocock Memorial Rowing Center, 281 Brien Drive across from the Senior Center. We will present around 6:15pm and be open to questions starting around 7:00pm.
