Blake Island Cruise
June 26-27, 2020
Hello PMYC Cruisers
With the reintroduction of Port Madison Prams to the club's fleet, we have decided it would be fun to start a new cruise tradition and have a few prams sail to Blake Island for a revised "shrimp" cruise on June 26-27. This cruise is open to all cruisers in all boats. The idea for the Pram fleet is to launch at either Fort Ward or Eagle Harbor and to sail to Blake Island in the early afternoon with other larger cruisers providing escort services as needed (i.e. carrying camping gear and supplies and possibly giving a tow if the wind dies or the ebb current is too strong). The cruise will stop at the NW end of Blake Island with the Prams anchoring out for the night with their crews camping ashore (or sleeping on the escort boats (where Covid protocol allows). We hope this cruise will re-ignite some of the small boat cruising our yacht club was famous for in years past.
Since the WDFW set the Shrimp season after the initial cruising calendar was created and we now see that shrimping will only be open in our part of Puget Sound on May 19th, We have picked this new revised date to align with the opening on hood canal on June 16th. We hope some die hard shrimpers might catch some shrimp a few days before the cruise and bring them to Blake Island for the group to enjoy in the spirit of our traditional "Shrimp" cruise.
Whether you have a Pram or not. we hope you will join the cruise and help start this new tradition. If you have a desire to catch some shrimp and bring them along—even better!
