Blake Island Shrimp Cruise
April 11-12, 2019
Cruise Captains: Langley Gace and Larry Witty
We will cruise on Saturday to the west side of Blake Island, where there are a number of DNR buoys, or you can anchor, and there are camp sites ashore if folks want to camp. This is the northwest shore, just south of the large sandy beach popular with kayakers. We normally use one of the campsites for our fire and dinner on Saturday night. Larry Witty and Langley Gace do some serious shrimping in this very short, two day season, and bring fresh shrimp to share with the rest of us. This year Kachai will also provide a delicious Thai Coconut Soup, which will be enhanced by fresh shrimp.
On Sunday, some folks might want to hike around to Tillicum Village or all the way around the island. This is a very kid friendly cruise, not a great distance from home and much to do ashore. Looking forward to seeing our fellow cruisers for another memorable get together. Your cruise admiral, Kim

This is one of our most popular family friendly cruises! As you know, the entire Blake Island is a park with a beautiful sandy beach, walking trails, Tillicum Village, picnic tables and camping spots. Anchor out on the west end of the island along with an array of other PMYC boats. This cruise coincides with the opening day – and usually the only day - of shrimp season in our part of Puget Sound. Two PMYC families, the Wittys and Gaces generously share part of their catch with the rest of us as we gather for a potluck and shrimp fry over on open fire on the beach. Some participants choose to camp on the beach for the night while others row back to their boats.
