Novice Opti Regatta and Racing Clinic at Poulsbo Yacht Club

It looks like we will have 10 junior sailors from PMYC racing this weekend at Poulsbo Yacht Club. Outstanding!

I have attached a flier that Poulsbo YC has created with the details. Please be at Oyster Plant Park right next to the yacht club at noon to launch. We will explain the race course to you at the skippers meeting once we get to the PYC dock. Note that we would like you to bring either some fruit, chips or a bag of cookies to share at the BBQ. All other food will be provided by PYC. Families of sailors are welcome at the BBQ. It will be fun to meet fellow parents of PMYC and PYC junior sailors.

Here is a link for directions. Scroll to the bottom of page and click on the map.

Fal Joslin Results

The annual Fal Joslin Race to Port Ludlow and back on June 12-13 saw 14 boats participate in near perfect conditions under the direction of Race Committee Jim Llewellyn.  (Watch for his comments later)

Congratulations to Peter Shorett and Andy Parker on Karma–just out of reconstructive surgery and overall winners.  Several new boats sailing  this year- John Maltman’s Santana 525 Dance, Dave Utley’s freshly restored C&C 48 Morning Star and Dale & Tina Ingalls enormous and sleek Perry 61 Wild Horses.

The only thing hotter that  the sailing was the near world class horse shoe competition at the potluck/bbq on Saturday night.

Dinghy Racing Results for May 28 and June 4

The Friday night weather just doesn't seem to be cooperating. We only had 3
boats venture out into the rain last week, but we still sailed 6 races and
found enough wind to make it fun. The results were:

Roslyn Webber/Alejandro Gil: 24
Ethan Stahl (laser): 17
Jake Robinson (laser): 13

The week before, we had a bigger turnout of 7 V-15s. There was no wind at the
start, but we did manage to find a little breeze as we sailed out of the
harbor. Before the first race, it was suggested that the results don't count
in the series since there was almost no wind. Since the wind did start to
pick up after that, I've only thrown out the first race and kept the rest. I
hope that's a reasonable compromise for everyone!

Bill Jones: 37
Susie and Dave Kaseler: 36
Nate Greason/Jake Robinson: 36
Ethan Stahl/Patrick Taylor: 32
Jacob Webber/Roslyn Webber: 22
Maude Gibbons/Jackson McCoy: 21
Emily Mather/Randy Mather: 10

This week (June 11) is the last in the series and the forecast looks a little better.
The cumulative results for the series so far are:
Vanguard 15
Roslyn Webber: 93
Nate Greason: 83
Patrick Taylor: 72
Bill Jones: 68
Peter Shorett: 50
Maude Gibbons: 49
Jackson McCoy: 28
Stephanie Ahlquist: 41
Zig Burzycki: 41
Lea Fetterman: 40
Dave Kaseler: 36
Suzy Kaseler: 36
Jake Robinson: 36
Ethan Stahl: 32
Banning Jones: 31
Andy Parker: 28
Pat Mitchell: 28
Randy Mather: 27
Alejandro Gil: 24
Jacob Webber: 22
Geoff Schmidt: 18
Diane Gibbons: 17
Emily Mather: 10

Dinghy Racing Results for May 7 and Series 1 Final Standings

The first 5-week dinghy racing series concluded on May 7. The racing was very close this week with only 2 points separating 1st from 4th in the final standings. Six Vanguards and 2 lasers sailed 4 races in a northerly that looked promising but gradually died. Almost everyone ran aground at some point; a few of us managed to do it twice! Thank you to Andy Parker for your work on race committee.

One of the most encouraging results of the first series is that we had such broad participation. Over the 5-week series, 38 different sailors raced in the Vanguard 15’s and 8 sailed lasers. Many adults sailed with their kids and quite a few of the high school sailors participated. A few juniors also tried Optis but the conditions made it tough for them this series. I hope the Optis will keep trying…conditions should get better for you as we get closer to summer.

The next series starts May 14. We race every Friday at 6pm.
