Ahoy me Hearties- We are making a date change for our Shakedown Cruise to Blake Island. The new cruise weekend is 20-21 of May. The reason for the shift primarily is that our great and generous shrimper, Larry Witty, and has able assistant, Langley Gace are both away and will not be shrimping or participating in the cruise. So, we are moving it from Mothers Day weekend to a little later, perhaps warmer and drier weekend. We will be cruising to the west side of Blake Island and taking buoys or anchoring off the camping area, near the north end of the island. There are strong currents at times, so be sure to anchor with that in mind. As usual, we will plan a campfire on the beach and a shared dinner on Saturday night. We might also get together on Sunday morning for a hike on the island. There have been times when this cruise had strong winds from the southwest, in which case there is little protection. If strong winds are predicted, I propose that we make Blakely Harbor our alternate destination.
We know that this early in the season some of you feel your boat is just not ready yet for cruising. Just the reason for a "shakedown", since it is just a one night cruise, and you can see what needs to be done before the real cruising season begins.
